The Amazon Echo Dot provides Alexa's convenience in a portable and reasonably priced design. Many people are unsure if the 4th generation Echo Dot fits their needs the 5th generation Echo Dot.
The dimensions and fabric covers of the Echo Dot 4th and 5th generations are the same. However, the 5th generation is heavier and comes in more colors. Both contain four control buttons, but the fifth generation just has a power connector on its rear panel.
Both devices are available with a clock, but the 5th gen offers a more detailed display.
The Echo Dot 5th generation has a 1.7-inch speaker and a slightly larger driver than the 4th generation, making it louder and with twice as much bass. However, there is a noticeable increase in distortion at higher volumes.
Both devices are connected to Amazon's Alexa smart assistant, providing access to the same services and information via the Alexa app.
The fifth-generation Echo Dot has more sensors, including an accelerometer and a temperature sensor. Users can snooze an alarm or pause the music by tapping the device, which can detect tap interactions. These extra sensors are missing on the 4th generation Echo Dot.
Both devices can be stereo paired, which allows for a more immersive audio experience.
Both devices can also be added to groups, which makes it easy to control multiple devices at once.
Both devices offer all the other features of Alexa, including Alexa calling.
Those who wish to use their Echo Dot for more than simply a smart speaker will benefit greatly from the additional sensors that the Echo Dot 5th generation offers.
With a minor improvement in sound quality over the 3rd generation, the Echo Dot 4th generation is a fantastic choice for individuals who intend to use their Echo Dot primarily as a smart speaker.
